Application of high-purity helium gas in various industries

    Helium, high-purity helium

Physical properties of high-purity helium gas: Molecular formula He: Boiling point: -269.96 ℃ (3.1905k) Density: 0.1347kg/m3 Relative molecular weight: 3.0160 Production method: Extracting from natural gas Main properties: completely inert, lighter than air, high liquid and small molecular size, low solubility, lowest liquid temperature Application: Extracting high-purity helium gas from natural gas. Only a few places in the world contain a high proportion of high-purity helium gas for extraction. It is mainly located in the United States, Poland, Algeria, and Russia. Due to its high value, high-purity helium is the only high-purity gas in international trade. High purity helium is only lighter than hydrogen, but unlike hydrogen in terms of flammability, high-purity helium is inert. Therefore, filling balloons is a safe choice. The temperature of high-purity helium liquid is very low (-269 ℃), which helps to form superconducting magnets at low temperatures in hospital MRI scanners and special research equipment. High purity helium is mainly used in the following industries: aviation/diving/balloon inflation/electronics (leak detection)/fiber optics

    1. As an ideal cryogenic gas for magnetic resonance and nuclear magnetic resonance superconducting magnets in healthcare, high-purity helium can reach a low temperature of -451 degrees Fahrenheit and effectively obtain high-resolution images of internal organs and tissues.

    2. High purity helium gas in automobiles and transportation equipment is used to test key automotive components such as radiators, heat exchangers, air conditioning components, fuel tanks, and torque converters to ensure they meet quality specifications. In addition, high-purity helium gas can also be combined with argon gas, and high-purity helium gas is increasingly used for inflating safety airbags.

    3. The inertness of high-purity helium gas in welding and metal processing at arc temperatures makes it an ideal gas for welding high thermal conductivity materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, copper, and magnesium alloys. It can also be used as a fire extinguishing gas and furnace gas during heat treatment to improve the durability and quality of parts.

    4. High purity helium gas is widely used in the entire aerospace and aircraft manufacturing process, from manufacturing to flight. Space flight uses high-purity helium to purify hydrogen systems, which are used as compressors in soil and flight fluid systems. Balloons are also used as lift sources for meteorological and other observation balloons.

    5. Electronic high-purity helium gas plays an important role in the manufacturing of semiconductors, liquid crystal panels, and fiber optic circuits. Realize rapid cooling of parts, improve productivity, control heat transfer rate, enhance production efficiency, and reduce errors; In addition, high-purity helium can also be used as a carrier gas in the production process.

    6. When diving, the combination of oxygen and high-purity helium can effectively eliminate nitrogen anesthesia, reduce deep breathing resistance, and shorten decompression rest time. High purity helium oxygen mixture can allow divers to swim deeper and deeper in water. The deeper the diving depth, the higher the concentration of high-purity helium gas, allowing divers to dive deeper and achieve longer welding times.
