Things you don't know about high-purity helium

High-purity helium should be classified and stacked during transportation, storage, and application. It is prohibited to be close to fire or heat sources. It should be ensured that it is kept away from fire, oil wax, direct sunlight, heavy throwing, and collision. It is strictly forbidden to carry out arc striking or electric arc on oxygen cylinders. Rough handling is strictly prohibited. When moving nitrogen cylinders over short distances, small trolleys for cylinders should be used. When moving cylinders over long distances, vehicles for transporting hazardous chemicals should be used.

The helium content in high-purity helium air is only 0.00052%. Despite being so low, this figure continues to decrease. Due to helium's relatively low density, a continuous amount of helium escapes from Earth's gravity and flies into outer space. Therefore, obtaining helium through air separation is not practical, not to mention the high cost involved, and the low production and sales volume is also a problem. On Earth, some areas have a helium content exceeding 7%, which is formed by the decay of isotopes in the Earth's crust.

The gas cylinders for high-purity helium are labeled with an expiration date. Any expired cylinders must be sent to a designated unit for safety inspection before they can be used again. When a cylinder of helium is used up, the residual pressure inside the cylinder should be maintained at 0.5 MPa, which should not be too low. The cylinder valve should be closed to ensure the quality of the gas and the safety of use.
