High purity helium gas market and its applications

High purity helium gas market and its applications

    Helium, high-purity helium

1: Global distribution of high-purity helium gas resources

The main production method of high-purity helium gas is to extract it from natural gas rich in high-purity helium gas.

Among the 15 high-purity helium gas sources worldwide, the geological reserves of primitive high-purity helium gas in the East Siberian region of Russia (the world's largest helium resource) and the Sakha Republic are approximately 55-70 billion cubic meters. The Chayanda natural gas field in the Sakha Republic of East Siberia has a high-purity helium gas content of up to 0.20% -0.60%, and the annual production of high-purity helium gas reached 135 million cubic meters in 2015.

Market and Application of High Purity Helium Gas

Secondly, Wyoming (WY) in the United States, Odolanow in Poland, and Rnssia in Orenburg are also major high-purity helium gas resources worldwide.

And these major high-purity helium sources have signed development agreements with Matheson Tri Gas, the US subsidiary of Dayang Riich, which means that Dayang Riich's US subsidiary has the development rights for several key helium sources worldwide. This will also lead to the majority of China's high-purity helium resources being imported from the United States.

There are currently two main sources of helium in China. The helium content in the Weiyuan gas field in Sichuan Province (with an average of 0.2%), and the high-purity helium resources in the Weihe Basin in Shaanxi Province, mainly ranging from 0.8% to 1.2%, have abundant water-soluble high-purity helium. However, due to factors such as extraction technology and high-purity usage far exceeding the rich content, the domestically extracted high-purity helium resources can only be used for scientific research by a small number of national units. High purity helium still relies on imports.

2: Global production status of high-purity helium gas

The high-purity helium gas resources in the United States are the world's major producer and consumer of high-purity helium gas. Next are Russia, Poland, and Algeria. In the past 20 years, the annual growth rate of the global high-purity helium market has been approximately 9.3%.

China mainly imports high-purity helium gas from the United States. At present, the only two available helium sources in China can only supply a small number of national scientific research projects for utilization. Messer Foshan High Purity Helium Filling Station; Biotec (China) Investment Co., Ltd. and Air Liquide China's high-purity helium gas filling station supply a portion of China's high-purity production and medical research. According to statistics, the United States accounts for approximately 79.72% of high-purity helium development companies worldwide, Russia and Poland account for 19.59%, India accounts for 0.65%, China accounts for 0.005%, and other countries account for 0.035%. This statistic indicates that the United States holds the majority of the development and production rights for high-purity helium gas, which will also lead to the United States assuming the dominant role in global helium use.

3: Overview of global usage of high-purity helium gas

Asia accounts for approximately 43% of the world's helium usage, with China's usage accounting for around 40%. Secondly, the helium usage in Europe is about 27%, in North America it is about 10%, in South America it is about 6%, in Central America it is about 3%, in the Middle East it is about 4%, in Australia it is about 1%, in the Caribbean it is about 2%, and in other countries it is about 4%. The huge usage in China determines about 29.7% of the high-purity helium gas exported from the United States to China.

4: High purity helium gas application field

High purity helium is commonly used as a filling gas in spacecraft or advertising balloons, and this use is also well-known. High purity helium gas is widely used in mixed gases for respiration in the field of ocean development, as well as in the cooling of superconducting electromagnets in magnetic resonance imaging equipment in the medical field. It is widely used in military, scientific research, petrochemicals, refrigeration, medical, semiconductor, pipeline leak detection, superconducting experiments, metal manufacturing, deep-sea diving, high-precision welding, optoelectronic product production, etc. Can be used for low-temperature cold sources and superconducting technology. It can also be used as a leak detector for high vacuum devices, nuclear reactors, spacecraft, and as a protective gas for welding metals such as magnesium, zirconium, aluminum, and titanium. Used as pressurized gas for transporting liquid propellants such as hydrogen and liquid oxygen in rockets and spacecraft. It is also used as a cleaning agent for atomic reactors, carrier gas for gas chromatography analysis, balloon inflation, protective gas for arc welding, mixed gas for diving, and filling gas for gas thermometers. In addition, due to its good permeability and non flammability, high-purity helium gas is also used in the vacuum leak detection industry, such as helium mass spectrometer leak detectors. The usage of low-temperature and high-purity helium accounts for approximately 24%; Pressure blowing accounts for 19% of the field; Welding accounts for 20%; Controlled atmosphere 11%; Diving respiration and mixed gas 3%; Leak detection rate of 5%; Other uses account for 18%.
